Dricus du Plessis, a young South African, began his career in 2010 and made it all the way from provincial combat shows to the UFC. His journey from Pretoria to celebrity was not smooth or quick; rather, it required a lot of effort, sweat, and tears. Known by many as “Stilknocks,” du Plessis has bravely supported both the team and his country.
The youthful individual commenced his combat sports career in the Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) located in South Africa. His impressive record of 21-2-0 served as his entry point into the UFC. As one of the most well-known fighters in the MMA today, Du Plessis’ story is far from done.
At the most recent of Du Plessis’s well-known early bouts, which took place at EFC 62 in 2017, he gave Yannick Bahati the boot in the balls during the weigh-in. It was a war involving personal animosity and a conflict of interest rather than your average conflict. After Bahati embarrassed him by enlisting his girlfriend in verbal attacks prior to the bout, Du Plessis was eager to defeat him.
Bahti even managed to knock out Du Plessis during the face-off, forcing the two fighters into the ring. Du Plessis forced Bahati to hold a guillotine choke at the start of the fight and threatened him with his BJJ. Winning felt good, but it was even better to be the one to defeat the opposition by crossing the finish line first.

‘Sometimes I throw my arms not high enough, or you lift your chin; that is what she will say to you,’ said du Plessis. “And he will warn, then he will warn again, and then he says: ‘I told you twice already about this, now stay on your stomach.’ Still, I think it might be useful advice. It was intensive training but since advised, Du Plessis was able to trim down in the right way and get into better physical and mental fitness for the elite league needed for the SS.
Journey to UFC: Achievements
After joining the UFC in 2020 Du Plessis would be defeated Marcus Perez in the UFC Fight Night opening bout. Each time he knocked his opponent down at the start of his first fight, he previewed what was in store for the world. The identical second-round knockout of Trevin Giles was the beginning of the du Plessis ‘killstreak’ in 2021 only to see him have to withdraw from the second fight due to visa issues he was having at the time.
His career got a boost in 2023 when he was scheduled to fight former UFC limited weight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 290. As in the second round, Du Plessis knocked out his opponent to become in the history of the middle weight division. As a result of this ‘victory’, this writer was a competitor and so, du Plessis was known as the only partner of UF.
UFC Middleweight Champion: The Alteration of Self-effacing Achievements
Du Plessis was scheduled to have a bout for the UFC Middleweight Championship with Sean Strickland in UFC 297 in 2024. Du Plessis scored a highly competitive win to become the first South African to win a bout in the UFC. Just as it was a great achievement for du Plessis, the triumph was very important for the whole of Africa.
