The main event of UFC 307 this October will feature UFC lightweight champion Alex Pereira defending his championship against Khalil Rountree Jr. But both combatants and UFC supporters are divided on this contest. Rowntree’s title chance is being questioned by many for two main reasons: his recent suspension and the suspension of his fiercest competitor, Magomed Ankalayev, for allegedly ingesting a prohibited drug inadvertently.
Most people agree that Magomed Ankalayev, a lightweight ranked #2, is the most deserving opponent for Pereira’s upcoming bout. The UFC, however, decided to encircle him. Daniel Cormier, the former champion, claims that merit was not the only factor in his decision. Instead, it’s a reflection of the UFC’s plan to shield emerging star Pereira from a loss to a grappler like Ankalaev because he hasn’t yet been traded in a way that would help the organization.

Pereira is Not Prepared for Ankalaev
Daniel Cormier discussed his reasoning for the decision the UFC made. Even though Anklayev would seem to be the best candidate for a title opportunity, he thinks the UFC is being cautious with Pereira. Though it’s not actually a decision, Ankalayev feels like such an obvious choice. He and Alex shouldn’t go out there right now, in my opinion. With pay-per-view, Alex Pereira truly earns a ton of money. According to Cormier’s explanation on his YouTube channel, “He’s very popular for the UFC as a company.”
However, Cormier also brought up the inconsistencies in Pereira’s argument. The UFC believes he is too valuable to forfeit to a risky foe like Ankalaev. But unlike Conor McGregor, whose loss nevertheless raises the champion’s profile, Pereira is not a big enough figure to defeat other possible beaters. “When you beat Conor McGregor, you become a paid attraction.” I am not sure. If you defeat Pereira, you will “that would be a distraction,” Cormier continued.
Ankalayev Compelled to Wait
Magomed Ankalayev has no intention of waiting for an illusory title shot. Rather, later in October at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi, he will square off against Alexander Rakic, another elite contender. Ankalev, who has won twelve straight fights without losing, is hoping that a victory over Rakic, who has suffered defeats to Jan Blachovic and Jiri Prochajka, will allow him to finally get the shot at the title.
Rakic, who is ranked #5, is in dire need of a victory to maintain his place in the light heavyweight championship picture. He might return to the picture if he defeats Ankalayev. Ankalayev faces a difficult battle that might either guarantee him a shot at the crown or make him wait a bit longer.
It looks like a huge success for the UFC to have Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rowntree Jr. in order to protect Pereira’s strength in close matches, as opposed to Magomed Ankalayev. The UFC hopes that Pereira’s knockout power will be shown in another thrilling competition by giving him a good matchup. However, the format has generated a great deal of debate, with many contesting the veracity of the subject shot. Opponents point out that business interests could have a significant impact on the choice, favoring those with a strong focus on athletic ability over those looking to protect rising stars.
