Garry, ranked No. 10 in the welterweight division, recently disclosed that he was asked to leave Edwards‘ gym, a revelation that sparked rumors of discord.
Speaking exclusively to Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand in a TNT Sports interview, Edwards clarified the situation surrounding Garry’s exit. The champion echoed Team Renegade’s stance, emphasizing that the decision was not based on divisional rivalry but rather a clash of training philosophies and team culture.

‘Team Renegade’s more nomadic approach to preparation has given him great results, but it’s not in line with what we are creating at Team Renegade,’ asserted Team Renegade in a statement to the Independent. Edwards reiterated these sentiments, highlighting Garry’s late arrivals, the presence of cameras during training, and external distractions as factors contributing to the decision.
Garry, who is set to face Vicente Luque at UFC 296, expressed his side of the story in a recent interview with the Independent. While acknowledging the perception of being a threat due to their shared top-10 ranking, Garry emphasized that he is not an immediate contender for Edwards‘ title.
As Edwards gears up for the headline bout against Colby Covington, the tension surrounding Garry’s exit adds a layer of intrigue to the narrative. Edwards, aiming to defend his title and silence doubters, expressed eagerness to face Covington and solidify his reign.
‘Everyone is saying [to be wary of] his cardio and that he can keep the pace for the full fight, but I believe they’re judging that on fights where he’s fought over-the-hill guys like Robbie Lawler, Jorge Masvidal, Tyron Woodley. In sports, it’s old,’ Edwards remarked, setting the stage for a high-stakes encounter.

As UFC 296 approaches, the emotions and dynamics outside the cage intertwine with the impending battles inside. The clash between Edwards and Covington takes center stage, while the subplots involving Garry add a layer of unpredictability to the welterweight landscape. The UFC will closely follow developments, offering insights and expert analysis as the drama unfolds in Las Vegas on December 16.
