Current interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Espinal has been vocal about his desire to fight Jon Jones. Since defeating Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295, Espinal has repeatedly challenged the heavyweight champion, trying to prove himself as the best in the division but Jones is hesitant, wanting to recovers from injury and faces Stipe Miocic. Although Espinal admitted he could never fight Jones, he recently took a punch at the champion.
Jones Return Questionable
Before his title defense against Curtis Blades at UFC 304, Espinal questioned the possibility of ever fighting Jon Jones. In an interview with Michael Bisping on his YouTube channel, Espinal expressed doubts about Jones’ determination to fight Miocic. “Well, does he fight Stipe too? Because we have seen the stories. Where is the signed agreement, where is the declaration? You know what I mean? Will that be in the future?” Aspinall asked.
Jones Injury Problems
Jones is recovering from the injury and is expected to face Stipe Miocic next. Their fight, originally scheduled for UFC 295, was canceled due to Jones’ injury. Jones recently claimed in a now-deleted article on X that he injured his wrist at the Las Vegas airport. This fueled concerns about his strength, with some fans and insiders urging UFC CEO Dana White to strip Jones of his title.

AspinalL has made peace with the possibility that he will never have to fight Jones. “I don’t think I’ll fight back. I don’t think he’s going to fight me,” Espinal admitted during a conversation with Bisping. Despite being excited about the prospect of facing the heavyweight champion, Espinal is focused on the upcoming fight against the Blades.
Aspinall’s journey to the Octagon has been difficult. In his first fight in 2022, Espinal suffered a serious injury just fifteen seconds into the match. He tore his medial collateral ligament and meniscus and damaged his anterior cruciate ligament. This injury forced him out of the game for a long time.
In an interview with ‘Mainvent’, Espinal talked about the challenges he faced during his recovery. “Great trouble, comrade, to be honest. It was difficult. I was doing a lot of things wrong. And I really decided to retire from the game or go completely out of it all and focus 100% on what I’m doing. And obviously I decided to go all out.”
Facing Blaydes Again
As Espinal prepares to face the Blades again, he is determined to prove himself. He considers himself his best fighter and is eager to avenge past losses. The stakes are high, and Espinal is ready to back up his claims with actions.
The Future of the Heavyweight Division
Dana White confirmed that the winner of the Espinal vs. Semifinal match will be the winner. The Blades will have a chance to fight for the undisputed heavyweight title. With Jon Jones expected to return and defend his title against Stipe Miocic, the heavyweight division is set for a major shake-up. The outcome of UFC 304 will play a major role in determining the future of the division.
Tom Aspinall’s journey from serious injury to successfully defending his interim title is a testament to resilience and determination. As he prepares for UFC 304, expectations continue to build. With the heavyweight division adjusting, Espinal has a chance to make history.
