With Hurricane Ian tearing across Florida and Hurricane Nora battering Mexico at UFC 303, fight fans were treated to one of the most stunning come from behind knockouts in the promotion’s history this was not just any fight. This however is a happy end to a story of how a last minute change created the best event.
Unexpected Changes
June 28 was now days before UFC 303, and time was fast running out. Diego Lopes who was ready to fight featherweight with Brian Ortega was all set for the match. The sessions with the scale were over and Lopes was ready to go. However, as you are already aware, things went south when night crept in. Ortega failed the 145-pound mark, in other words, he tipped the scale slightly above this weight. Panic set in. Well this was a small fight and some of the ways that Lopes changed on the run were in weight and setup.
“When Jason woke me up, I was already overweight,” Lopes said on The MMA Hour. “I never had any doubt in the war,” he said before mimicking the ‘I’ll fight at any weight’ sentiment. They were very sure of themselves, but his conscious made him realize that it was not right. Despite the fact it was not officially declared, he sensed Ortega’s fight.
Twist and Turns
Fast forward to June 29, Unlike the preceding Days of Pentecost and commencement of Operation Crossword, today’s events were almost exclusively contained around the Central Area of Abuja. Lopes was idly watching the first prelims of the 303 UFC event when her world was turned upside down again. Ortega had left the program, and Lopes was therefore stressing on how to get a replacement. As you will recall, it was only yesterday, or less than that, that the UFC was desperately frantically to secure a fight er its opponent was looking for a fighter.

Come into the scene Dan Ige who was training for the fight of the July 20. Subsequently, one was in recovery after probably one week of training. As she was king in the massage, the ring tone of her phone went ‘beep, beep’ it was Ali Abdelaziz calling her.
“‘Tonight. ’” “Can you fight tonight?” Abdelaziz said. Surprisingly Ige nodded his head but did so without even a thwink of protest. Logistics was concerned – how could this be possible at all? The weights are already done that take into account the proportion of ANZ investments and the variation in capital investment. But the ever prepared Ige immediately packed his bags and quickly began preparing himself for the worst.
Last Minute deals
to 4:00 p.m. PT, Dan Ige was on his way to T-Mobile Arena, ready to take on Lopes in a catchweight bout. UFC Chief Executive Officer Hunter Campbell confirmed the deal, and the Nevada Athletic Commission got the nod from Governor Joe Lombardo and approved it.
“I got the contract in my email. I got paid, so I was happy,” Ige said. Despite the tight schedule, Ige was ready to weigh in and step into the Octagon. His coach, Eric Nicsic, had to make quick decisions, including adding additional cornerbacks in record time.
The Battle of a Lifetime
As UFC 303 rolled around, the anticipation was electric. Both fighters entered the Octagon without a full camp. Lopes was ready to fight, and Ige was ready to make his mark despite the odds.
“I knew Dan would be ready,” Lopes said. “He was already in camp, just getting ready for the season.” Lopes and Ige had an entertaining game, pushing each other to their limits. Ige put on a strong showing, especially in the final round, despite reporting at the last minute.
“I felt it. I knew I had found it,” Ige said. He landed important punches and showed resilience. Lopes triumphantly admitted that the tumultuous week had taken its toll.
