More than just physical agony is plaguing former UFC bantamweight champion T.S. J.S. Dillashaw. The 38-year-old is now facing an uphill battle with his health after retiring from mixed martial arts in 2022. He was uncertain and frustrated by his shoulder ailment, which hampered him throughout his career.
Alzman Sterling was the wrestler who marked the begin of Dillashaw’s practice in the Mixed Martial Arts or MMA in 2022. Gradual development of shoulder problems distorted the war. During that camp, Dillashaw boldly remarked, “I probably broke my shoulder 20 times.” Nevertheless, the “Valkyrie” had to part ways with the finger painting for recurrent injuries in the mix.I think the hardship is real and terrible, which is constant and never ceases throughout one’s lifetime.
The shoulder struggle between Dilla and Shaw is still persistent to date which is almost two years down the row. Surgery was done on her again she developed complications and her health deteriorated. Dillashaw also explained on the Jaxxxon podcast, “I still can’t even lift my arms in the air. ” “It’s fucking depressing,” as he complained about his condition. You cannot be optimistic in acing the competition and even at this level, it has happened to me.

Its recovery has not been easy for Dillashaw; in fact it has been a bumpy journey to say the least. Cadaveric parts are among the tissue grafts that the man has undergone through in his plastic surgeries. Still, it can hardly be stated that he has made a complete recovery owing to these adversities. “They just keep adding more to it with every operation,” Dillashaw said. The recent surgery involved stripping off part of his tendon and rotator cuff, then the bone graft. He said on the nurses’ part it was worst when he said it was like a bomb went off in his shoulder.
The Realistic Dilemma
Dillashaw wanted to resume wrestling and initially planned for achieving the black belt. However, this has turned out to be a mirage owing to his current status in the society. “I have found it very tough to come to terms with the fact that perhaps I will never be able to move my shoulder as I used to,” he said frankly. The very notion, which is that he may never be able to raise or extend his arm again is unpalatable bitter pill that Dillashaw is finding hard to swallow.
The Rewards of a Warrior’s Life
At his peak, Dillashaw was considered one of the best bantamweights in the sport, and his career that includes a stunning victory over Cory Sandhagen in 2021. His comeback went into the tournament after serving a two-year suspension due to a positive EPO test is a testament towards his determination. However, the shoulder issues persisted, and his subsequent defeat to Sterling led to his retirement.
Dillashaw is now focused on maintaining his health and maintaining a normal life. The transition from professional athlete to compliance with strict physical restrictions is proving to be a “hard pill to swallow”. His ongoing struggle is not only with physical fitness but also with losing his athletic identity.
Looking Ahead
The trek taken by Dillashaw serves as a powerful reminder of the physical cost of professional sports. Her tale illustrates the difficulties athletes encounter outside of the arena as they look for methods to better their circumstances. His accomplishments in the sport of battling for a better life are still rather remarkable.
