Following her contentious defeat to the current two-time UFC Bantamweight Champion, Julianna Peña, at UFC 307, Raquel “Rocky” Pennington isn’t going to remain quiet. Pennington corrected the record in her first public remarks following the bout, stating that she doesn’t think Peña actually prevailed.

The battle, which happened inside the Delta Centre in Salt Lake City, was a full-fledged war. Both ladies were obviously giving it their all during the rounds, but Pennington seemed to swing things in the last seconds. Many thought Pennington had sealed her victory when, late in the bout, her powerful right punch rocked Peña. However, the narrative presented was different when the judges’ scorecards were made public.

The Differing Opinion

The panel of three judges produced a split decision; two gave Peña a narrow 48-47 victory, while one gave Pennington the same score. The choice stunned the mixed martial arts community, leaving observers, competitors, and fans all wondering how it would turn out.

Despite Pennington’s dramatic comeback in the last round, Peña’s perseverance appeared to tip the scales in her favour with two judges. After surviving the last round of attacks, Peña, also known as “The Venezuelan Vixen,” left many onlookers wondering if it was enough to regain the title.

It was evident that the debate had only just begun as soon as the battle finished. Opinions on social media were wildly polarised. Fans were ecstatic, but Pennington herself raised the biggest voices of all.

Pennington Expresses Herself: A Warrior’s Reaction

Pennington used Instagram in the days after the altercation to vent her annoyance at the choice. Her post was honest, passionate, and full of the ferocity of a fighter who feels mistreated.

In a Tuesday Instagram post, Pennington stated, “I don’t feel I lost that fight.” “My heart hurts, but my head is high!” She emphasised that she was prepared to come back stronger, calling the fight another “wild diversion” in her already storied career. She then made the shocking statement, “I want the rematch stat!”

She demanded justice with her words, not merely a plea. She believes that her moment was stolen, and she is now pleading with the UFC to set things right by giving her a rematch right away.

With this defeat, Pennington ended her remarkable run of six straight victories, which had included a commanding triumph over Mayra Bueno Silva at UFC 297 earlier this year to claim the vacant Bantamweight title. Her career was at its pinnacle at the time, but it has since abruptly stopped.

Supporters Unite Behind “Rocky” Following her choice, Pennington’s supporters have poured messages of encouragement into her social media accounts. Many others have expressed similar views, stating that it is too close to declare Peña the winner with confidence. Some have even speculated that Peña’s perseverance may have won the judges over instead of who delivered the bigger strikes.

This wave of support might put further pressure on the UFC to think about holding a rematch right away. Clarity is what fans want, and Pennington’s request for a rematch could be the ideal approach to resolve the score.

What Does the Bantamweight Division Have in Store?

The UFC Bantamweight division is still undefined at this time. Peña has successfully regained her title, but Pennington’s dispute still casts a long shadow over her victory. A rematch might be the spark that reignites the rivalry between the two ladies, who have both proven to be among the best in the division.

However, Pennington’s adventure continues after this setback. She is prepared to return, in her own words, “better than ever.” The UFC world is excited to see if “Rocky” can return her title because of her evident fire, and a rematch appears to be imminent.

Note from the Editor: It’s not just about victories or losses here. This is a story of perseverance, grit, and the pursuit of atonement. While the controversy surrounding the UFC 307 decision continues, one thing is certain: Pennington is far from finished. His fire and heart demand our attention.
