The atmosphere at UFC 304 in Manchester, England was electric as Muhammad Mokaev took on Manel Kape in the highly anticipated bout. The bout at Co-op Live saw intense pre-fight hostilities and ended in spectacular fashion. Despite the build-up, the fight itself failed to live up to the explosive hype, with Mokaev earning a recognized decision victory in a contest heavy on drama but light on action
Mokaev Reveals the Events Leading up to the War
In a revealing post-fight interview, Muhammad Mokaev opened up about the events leading up to his fight with Manel Kape. Mokaev revealed that the enmity between the two is not just criminal but has real roots. He recounted an incident that occurred five days before his scheduled fight against Alex Perez in March.

“I met Manel before my fight with Alex Perez,” Mokaev said. “He headbutted me at that meeting. If you watch my fight with Alex Perez, I went into that fight head-on. The incision required stitches and I fought it. I kept dropping my knees to avoid opening the trigger again, but no one knew this. Manel had said in an interview that he would do it again if he came to Manchester. So when he showed up at the hotel, I couldn’t reach him so I set up a photo opportunity and then dropped him off. I had to because I refuse to be bothered. I come from a strong family and I don’t let anyone push me away.”
The Pre-fight Tension Spread to the Cage
The tension between Mokaev and Kape was palpable even before the fight began. As they entered the cage, hostility once again threatened to boil over. Shortly after entering, the two fighters had to be separated by security. This added further drama to an already heated matchup. Cooler heads prevailed, and the fight went on as planned, although the undercurrents of his opponents remained a factor throughout.
Mokaev’s Opponent’s Mind
Mokaev reduced pre-combat skirmishes to a standard part of combat games. “We’re two guys in the ring,” he said. “It’s normal to feel a little overwhelmed. We’re here to compete, and that’s part of it. He is coming for what he wants, and I am chasing my goals. UFC safety there is standard, but it’s part of the game.”
Asked to delve into his rivalry with Kape, Mokaev opted to drop the case. “We fought and held hands after the fight,” he explained. “What happened should stay between us. I respect that Kape has a family and fights to support them. Now you don’t have to underestimate him anymore. I’m young and mentally strong, and I believe in lifting others up, not kicking them when they’re down.”
Contracts and Uncertain Future
After the fight, Mokaev revealed that his fight with Kape was the last fight of his current UFC contract. He asked the crowd to help him get a new deal. Despite the win, UFC CEO Dana White cast doubt on Mokaev’s future near the UFC. White pointed out that when the Mailmakers advised Mokaev to show his striking, they weren’t particularly happy with his style.
