Jorge Masvidal, the former MMA standout, may have stepped away from active competition, but his appetite for thrilling fights remains undiminished. In a recent conversation with ESPN, where he was promoting his upcoming Gamebred Bareknuckle event scheduled for September 8th, Masvidal hinted at the possibility of a comeback, all in the pursuit of determining the true “Baddest Motherf—er.”
Masvidal, the inaugural BMF (Baddest Motherf—er) belt holder, had retired from the sport. However, after his departure, the UFC staged a contest between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje to decide the new champion. Gaethje secured a resounding victory, reigniting the BMF title’s prominence. Masvidal, ever the competitor, expressed his willingness to challenge Gaethje for the belt, should he decide to return to the octagon.
In Masvidal’s own words to ESPN, “I think he should defend it against me, if you ask me. That’s what should happen if I was to come back to the sport. That’s a big if, but I never knock off coming back to fighting because I love fighting. I love fighting. It’s my favorite pastime, it’s my favorite sport, it’s my way of life. So, I can never say I’m not going to fight.”
Despite concluding his career on a four-fight losing streak, “Gamebred” remains one of the sport’s most prominent figures. A showdown between Masvidal and Justin Gaethje would undoubtedly be a marquee superfight, with Gaethje being the favored competitor. It’s worth noting the size difference, as Masvidal competes at 170 pounds, while Gaethje is a lightweight fighter at 155 pounds.
While Masvidal doesn’t anticipate an immediate showdown with Gaethje, he did drop a tantalizing hint about impending significant developments. In his own words, “It’s not something that I would do yet or that I want to do yet. It’s always in the back of my mind, like, man, I miss fighting. But right now I want to get these promotions off the ground. I do have some news that’s huge, but I can’t announce it yet.”
The implications are clear: Jorge Masvidal’s presence in combat sports is far from over. What lies ahead for “Gamebred”? The answer is eagerly anticipated by fans and enthusiasts alike.
