After a huge hiatus, Jon Jones is ready to return to the Octagon, possibly against heavyweight legend Stipe Miocic. However, fans are buzzing with speculation as Jones recently showed a new approach to his fight training, focusing primarily on his elbow strikes.
Jones, known for his deadly wrist strikes, took to social media to share exciting updates about his training regimen. He revealed that despite his long career, he has never trained in the gloves, relying solely on mitts and weight bags to keep his work level and now, with the fight looming on the horizon, he’s considering adding elbow pads to his training arsenal.
“I’m sitting here ready to order my first corner plate. The funny thing is, in all these years, I never trained with elbow pads. I just practiced with mitts and the gloves of the heavy bag. I never really throw an elbow when I’m competing, but somehow the perfect moment seems to come naturally on fight night,” Jones wrote.
Jones Records with a 12-6 Elbow Controversy
The only blemish on Jones’ otherwise stellar record came in 2009, when he was disqualified for a 12-6 elbow to Matt Hamill. At the time, such a corner was illegal, disqualifying Jones. However, now that the ban has been lifted, there is talk that this loss can be removed from his record.
Fans React: “Dude is Knocking Out Stipe or Aspinall”
Jones’ prognosis of his training has the audience guessing as far as his next match is concerned. A lot of them argued that his flamboyant striking would bring out the vicious knockouts in his future fights. One fan dared to go further and said, “Dude is finishing Stipe or Aspinall with elbows. ”

In response, one fan wrote: “Getting ready to fight Tom Aspinall?!” Such a statement is indicative of the rising anticipation regarding a possible bout between Jones and Aspinall of late, who has recently TKO’d Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 and followed that up by calling out ‘Bones’.
When Jones confirms that he has never trained with elbow pads, one fan comments a “Damn, you were tapping guys with shots you never spewed in the gym? You’re the real deal, ” Concerning the admiration of the natural talent of Jones together with his ability to dominate his opponents besides training in the gym is evident here.
Aspinall’s Old-School Mindset Vs Jones’ Measure
While Jones is preparing for fights with new gears, his possible future opponent Tom Aspinall is sticking to simple training equipment. Aspinall, like Irish travelers, has been washing his hands in diesel to make his skin and bones around his knuckles hard and unyielding for punching.
Still, Aspinall, despite his best efforts to really grind the fight, remained the underdog to most people’s eyes, especially Jones. Of course, one of the fans said: “Welp, we know how Stipe is getting finished” pointing out that it will be the same with Miocic because Jones has recently strengthened the purview of his elbow strikes.
UFC 307 and Future Matchups
As UFC 307 approaches in October, fans are eagerly awaiting the official announcement of Jones’ next fight. Dana White recently announced that Alex Pereira would face Khalil Rountree at the event, leaving some fans disappointed that a bout between Jones and Pereira isn’t on the card.
Nevertheless, the excitement for Jones’ return is palpable. One fan summed up the anticipation perfectly: “Let’s go, Jones! Stipe, then Aspinall, and set up the biggest fight in UFC history. Poatan vs. Jones.”
