Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Nganno has been out of the Octagon for two years, pursuing his boxing dream. Signed with rival MMA promotion PFL, Nganno fought Anthony Joshua earlier this year. Despite announcing his return to the Octagon on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Nganno has a strong passion for wrestling.
Ngannou’s Boxing Aspirations
During a recent episode of a show, Nganno spoke about his desire to continue boxing despite fulfilling his PFL fight commitments in November. Speaking with Joe Rogan, Ngannou talked about his big plans for wrestling.
Veteran UFC commentator Joe Rogan asked Ngannou about his future in the PFL, especially if he wants to beat Renan Ferreira. Rogan suggested that after such success, Ngannou could face limited opportunities within the organization. Ngannou answered frankly, expressing his desire to turn to boxing if that situation presented itself.
Asked by Rogan about potential challengers, Nganno admitted he wasn’t thinking of anyone in particular. He explained that the selection of his opponents would depend on the circumstances. Ngannou elaborated, “Because my expectations, as you used to ask me, are like how many fights do I think I can fight in MMA or boxing? I think I have a good four-fight schedule in wrestling, I think it could be good. You know, you get like four good fights, and then you build up, like, you know who and what can follow. That could be a retirement plan.”
Personal Tragedy: The Loss of his Son
Joe Rogan’s conversation with Frances Nnno also drifted deeper into deeply personal territory. For the first time, Ngannou spoke about the tragic loss of her infant son, Kobe, who died of a brain tumor in April. The tragedy has deeply affected Ngannou, who is known for her toughness and resilience.

Often referred to as “The Predator,” Ngannou revealed to Joe Rogan that the loss of his son left an unbearable void in his life. Despite her intense pain, she experienced a peculiar sense of death, and saw the possibility of being reunited with her son. “In your heart you feel empty,” Ngannou said. It doesn’t cost anything. I mean, I’ve always enjoyed life… but at least for once, I’m like, at least whenever I die I’ll take care of my baby. I’ve seen him. I’m not afraid, I still want to live but at least to think about that every time you get to that point, so every time that happens there’s a way to find out.”
The MMA community rallied around Ngannou, offering comfort and support during this difficult time. Despite his own adversity, Ngannou showed incredible resilience and returned a winner’s energy.
The Way Forward
Looking ahead, Ngannou is ready to start a new chapter in the PFL, with his highly anticipated fight against Renan Ferreira in Saudi Arabia this November and fans are eager to see how Ngannou’s journey between the Octagon and the boxing ring is between the going.
The story of Francis Nganno is one of great strength and determination. As he continues to navigate his professional and personal life, he remains an inspiration in the combat sports world. Her plans for the future and her ability to overcome her own tragedy reflect her unwavering spirit and dedication to the art.
