In the upcoming UFC 302 event slated for June 2, American fighter Dustin Poirier is gearing up for what could potentially be his final bout inside the octagon. While he hasn’t made an official decision yet, Poirier acknowledges that this fight against UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev might mark the end of his illustrious career.
Reflecting on his future in the sport, Poirier stated, “It could be [my last fight]. I haven’t made an official decision yet, but it could be. I’ve said this over and over again, I still have a lot of tread on the tires I can beat these young guys – I just did it. But how much do I want to give to this sport.”
Poirier’s last outing was against Benoit Saint-Denis in March at UFC 299, where he secured a victory via knockout in the second round. With an impressive record of 30 wins and eight losses in mixed martial arts, Poirier has established himself as one of the top contenders in the lightweight division.
