Known as one of the best fighters of the MMA, Demetrius Johnson raised questions for his plans. While technically Johnson has not retired although he has not officially stated it, his interest and priority is with MMA. The 31-year-old two-time flyweight beholder, who decked out with the most comprehensive title rivalry record, got idle after his triumph over Adriano Moraes in the bout in May 2023. This is what Johnson has stated following his latest comments that while he has not shut a return to MMA down it’s not on his mind now.
More notable achievement is the fact that Johnson has been managing his career with impressive feats. It resulted in an awesome performance of 11 title tussles from 2012 to 2018, and thus had asserted the dominance of the flyweight division.
Though, his reign came to an end by Henry Cejduo at UFC 227; the champion moved to ONE Championship where he established his dominance by flyweight title he said on and well protected. However, principal questions that arise concern the subject’s active training in the nearest future, as he has not competed for a very long time.
In the recent interview of the podcast, Johnson had his current thoughts. “I prefer leaving that door open,” he replying. “You’ll always have your love for mixed martial arts,” he said. “I’m not officially retired. I’m just saying right now mixed martial arts is not on my mind.” This statement shows that he is ready to accept changes in the priorities and still involved in the game.

The need for more opportunity has been mouthed time and again by Johnson indicating his desire to look beyond the traditional fields of MMA. In the last few years he has displayed interest in other combat sports topics and special events. This curiosity means Johnson is ready to expand the playing career. Although, this does not mean that he will be completely retiring from the MMA. “It doesn’t mean that if something came through, ‘Hey man, you want to fight this?’ Honestly, why not?” Johnson said. It also helps that, despite not being exactly aggressive about a possible return to the ring, he has not closed the door on the prospect of an actual fight.
Training and Preparation
However, Johnson still teaches in some way as he is currently engrossed with other responsibilities too. “I still exercise each day I take the rations and still I have right weight as per my height,” she said. He has transitioned from drill like MMA training to an intense martial art training that he has now progressed to doing jiu-jitsu. Johnson stated that he only hit the pads twice for a year and a half demonstrating how the reduction in emphasis in traditional MMA training. But he affirms them that he is equally capable of performing at his best should he get an opportunity to do so.

Looking Ahead
This is Johnson’s future yet to be decided but the words are from a fighter that is still very much passionate with the sport. He agrees that despite no uncertainty, he has not practiced MMA, but is willing to come back anytime that’s required. “When the time comes to go and I am officially retired then I will be around, for less reasons, for goals.” said Johnson. This statement appears to mean that his retirement will also be a final analysis of his experience in the course of his working years.
