As the two warriors exchanged social media posts, Tom Aspinall and John Jones’ intense animosity grew more intense. Recently, Jones was accused of using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) by Espinal, the interim heavyweight champion, in a daring maneuver. UFC analyst Daniel Cormier was alerted to the maneuver and thinks Aspinall’s plan was brilliant in order to incite Jones.
Through Cormier’s support of Espinal’s strategy, Tom Aspinall expresses his ambition to defeat John Jones and take home the heavyweight belt. Recently, Espinal tweeted that Jones was a “dodgy war winner” and, more controversially, that he was taking performance-enhancing drugs. Charges were brought after Jones erased an obviously insulting message. “Jon is right, he won more world championships than me… he used PEDs,” tweeted Espinal as soon as he saw the opportunity.
Daniel Cormier, who had a rivalry with Jones, praised Espinal’s approach. Cormier said targeting Jones’ PEDs is strategic. He said, “Guys, it’s brilliant. It’s brilliant. Because as you know, in the whole situation with John the one thing he always hated and the one thing he wanted to prove more than anything was that he didn’t do PEDs. The one thing he doesn’t want on his records is stars.”
Cormier’s investigation reflects the ongoing battle to clear Jones’ reputation. Despite USADA claims that the PEDs found in Jones’ system were in negligible levels, Jones is adamant that he is innocent. Cormier believes Espinal’s comments hit Jones in a very sore spot, and could set the stage for a future fight between the two fighters. “He attacks half of what Tom Aspinall did, he really jumps in and says, ‘I can’t stand that dude.’

Jones the Ongoing PED Controversy
Jon Jones has long been the subject of PED accusations. An employee of Drug Free Sport came to pick up the manufactured liquid, and Jones was subjected to another test earlier this year. When Jones refused to donate blood and requested blood instead, the claimed situation worsened. A lawsuit resulted from the agent’s accusations of Jones’s assault and threats.
To these accusations, Jones entered a not guilty plea. Jones defended himself by saying, “I was merely celebrating my birthday and napping when investigators came to visit me. When I stood up, one of the examiners caught me acting in a rather impolitely manner and following protocol, which led to me regretfully using some foul language. You have my word that I would forcefully defend myself against these utterly unfounded accusations. The truth is, it just didn’t happen.”
Jones may have been subject to a $1,500 fine and jail time if found guilty. The continuous investigation into his usage of performance-enhancing drugs and legal issues has obviously had an impact on him, which heightens the controversy surrounding Espinal’s claims.
Defending the Future by Fighting
The idea of a brawl with Tom Aspinall is still amazing, even though Jon Jones is still dealing with legal and reputational problems. The likelihood of this battle is increased by Cormier’s endorsement of Espinal’s plan. A high-stakes fight in the Octagon is what fans will be watching to see if Jones answers Espinal’s provocative comments.
