In a thrilling turn of events for mixed martial arts enthusiasts worldwide, Conor McGregor seems poised to make a triumphant return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) after a hiatus. The former two-division champion recently revealed his intention to re-enter the UFC’s stringent anti-doping program, signaling his determination to step back into the octagon.

McGregor shared this momentous development with his legion of followers via Instagram following an intense training session. In a brief update, he disclosed that he had officially submitted the necessary paperwork to UFC’s Senior Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance, Jeff Novitzky. Novitzky, who oversees the UFC’s anti-doping program, holds the key to McGregor’s potential return.

Fighters who have withdrawn from the anti-doping testing pool are mandated to endure a six-month testing regimen before they can compete again. McGregor initially departed from the UFC’s anti-doping program while nursing a broken leg he sustained during his last bout against Dustin Poirier in 2021.

In his Instagram post, McGregor left no doubt about his intentions, stating defiantly:

“Find my targets. Hit them. Fuck the consequences. You’re going down. This is fighting. Sparring day with slick @grozdevnikolay. Always a banger of a spar with the slick fella. Submitted my stuff to Novitzky. Ball rolling ⚽️ see you soon you little light work bitch”

The not-so-subtle jab seemed to be aimed at Michael Chandler, his intended opponent upon his UFC return. Their showdown had been repeatedly postponed, waiting for McGregor’s re-entry into the anti-doping program.

While McGregor had previously engaged with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) as early as May, he never re-joined the program in practice. As of the latest available information from September 28, 2023, McGregor had not undergone testing by USADA this year.

This latest announcement promises to bring clarity to McGregor’s long-anticipated comeback, with the timing of his return coinciding with Chandler’s recent hint at a potential showdown. Chandler suggested the possibility of their epic encounter taking place on the momentous UFC 300 card, scheduled for 2024.

In Chandler’s words, “My heart of hearts says the biggest fight we’ve seen in a very long time has to go down on the biggest card that the UFC is going to put together since UFC 200, since UFC 100.”

While UFC 300 has not been officially scheduled, based on the current timeline, the event is expected to transpire in April. For McGregor to participate in this monumental card and fulfill the requisite six months of drug testing, he must re-enter the UFC’s anti-doping program in October. All signs now point to the Irish superstar making that decisive move.

As the anticipation builds and the clock ticks down, fight fans around the globe eagerly await McGregor’s return to the octagon, where he hopes to reclaim his spot as one of the sport’s most electrifying and dominant figures.

In Peter’s Word:

Conor McGregor’s imminent return to the UFC anti-doping program is set to reignite the octagon with fireworks. Fans can’t help but speculate about the potential showdown with Michael Chandler and the prospect of it happening on the historic UFC 300 card in 2024. Stay tuned for further updates as this thrilling saga unfolds.
