Conor McGregor, the self-acclaimed ‘Notorious’, is in the news again. This time, he is telling a story which took place in 2023 to be precise and caused quite a stir on social media platforms. The moment in question? For instance, when McGregor, with typical temerity, offered Anthony Joshua, a British boxing star, a pint of his Forged Irish Stout immediately after Joshua knocked out Robert Helenius. The mercurial meeting left Joshua looking rather baffled as McGregor reached out to him ringside, with a pint. The video was not long posted and became a hotspot for fans and critics who watched McGregor getting over the top and amusing at times to a certain extent.

Two years on, McGregor has not let the incident fade away into history, and neither have we. To recall this moment, the Irish MMA superstar posted a video on her Instagram page telling the story on August 16, 2024. In a sequence of photos of a recent party, McGregor contemplated on the post fight scene with Joshua. McGregor said that he did not compel the pint upon Joshua, as some have alleged he did to others. From the narrative made by McGregor, it clear that it was just a misunderstanding.
McGregor wrote in his instagram caption: 1 year ago today, @forgedirishstout busy year! Also for the record I didn’t make Joshua do anything. He exited the ring post his amazing victory and came straight to me and said ‘where is my Forged!’ I gave him mine. It was the first time that had happened at a fight. It’s seriously tasty and incredibly refreshing—you won’t get better!
Joshua’s Unexpected Response
Bizarrely, McGregor also divulged that Joshua had also developed quite a penchant for the stout as well. McGregor wrote in his caption: “Joshua loved it so much that he ordered multiple keg loads of it to his local pub!” McGregor clutched a beer. However, the post was not a plea for clarification alone; it was also an introduction to what is yet to be seen. Once again, McGregor used a tease to promote his brand and a hint at the larger news that would be coming in the near future when he wrote, “We have some mega announcements coming soon for you all FORGED ARMY!”
Joshua’s Press Conference Blunder
The post fight incident also stirred the web and was followed by a comic moment on the press conference after Joshua knocked out Helenius. Smiling, the two-time former unified world heavyweight WBA champion was once asked by a reporter whether or not he felt the effects of McGregor’s beer. And he was so stuck up that, he put McGregor’s Forged Irish Stout alongside Guinness, the more popular Irish brew. Joshua still remembers how during his first training sessions with Sean Murphy, the latter told him that Guinness was good for the health, because it contains iron. “And so I thought to myself; ‘you know what, lets neck a bit of iron’,” Joshua recalled, grinning.
This is true but one must also not forget that the mix-up was not escaped and was noticed. Not long after that, another reporter had an opportunity to note that, in fact, Joshua tasted not the Guinness, as it was promoted, but McGregor’s Forged Irish Stout. This clarification caused laughter round the room and Joshua too followed in laughing.
