Chael Sonnen Aligns with Eddie Hearn’s Plea for UFC to Pay Conor McGregor’s Demands
In the ongoing saga of Conor McGregor’s UFC return, former fighter turned analyst Chael Sonnen has thrown his weight behind boxing promoter Eddie Hearn’s call for the UFC to meet McGregor’s financial demands. Sonnen, known for his candid commentary, echoed Hearn’s sentiment, emphasizing the significance of McGregor’s presence in the sport.
During a segment on his YouTube channel, Sonnen urged the UFC to do “whatever it takes” to bring McGregor back to the octagon. Citing McGregor’s immense popularity and the financial boon his fights bring, Sonnen emphasized the importance of securing McGregor’s return.
“Eddie comes out in this particular case, he’s talking about Conor McGregor. Says to the UFC, ‘Hey, pay him whatever he wants. Get the deal done. Whatever it takes, you gotta what’s best for sport at times.’ And Conor McGregor is what’s best for sports,” Sonnen said.”He’s not wholly incorrect. I mean, red panty night has been a real theme. Red panty night has not been surpassed.”
McGregor, known for his ability to draw massive pay-per-view numbers, has been vocal about his desire to compete again. Despite UFC President Dana White’s assertions that McGregor’s leg injury and personal wealth are deterrents to his return, McGregor has expressed eagerness to step back into the cage.
White has maintained that McGregor’s recovery from his leg injury remains a hurdle, despite McGregor’s own assurances of readiness. Additionally, there are rumors circulating that negotiations have hit a standstill due to discrepancies between McGregor’s demands and the UFC’s offers.

This isn’t the first time McGregor has clashed with the promotion over compensation. Following his lucrative boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr., McGregor reportedly sought an ownership stake in the UFC as part of his return agreement.
While McGregor’s return date remains uncertain, his impact on the sport is undeniable. Fans eagerly await news of his next fight, with speculation rampant about potential opponents and the financial arrangements that will facilitate his comeback.
