Cedric Doumbe, the formidable French fighter renowned for his kickboxing prowess, is poised to make a thunderous entry into the Professional Fighters League (PFL). His journey to the PFL has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, filled with ups and downs that have only fortified his resolve.

Just a year ago, Doumbe was gearing up for a monumental UFC debut in his homeland of Paris, a historic moment for both him and the growing MMA community in France. The excitement was palpable, but fate had other plans. A mere few weeks before the event, Doumbe found himself abruptly removed from the card and subsequently released from the UFC roster.

Reflecting on that trying period, Doumbe shared, “I was very sad. I really wanted to make my UFC debut in France.” The disappointment ran deep as he was slated to face Darian Weeks in just his third MMA fight, on the undercard of Ciryl Gane vs. Tai Tuivasa.

Cedric Doumbe’s entrance into MMA was, unsurprisingly, a blaze of glory. With a stellar kickboxing career under his belt, including two reigns as the Glory middleweight champion, Doumbe was hailed as one of the finest welterweight kickboxers in history. His record of 75 wins, seven defeats, and one draw in kickboxing spoke volumes about his dominance.

The initial phase of his MMA career echoed the same sentiment, with Doumbe securing knockout victories over Arbi Emiev and Phruethukorn Chaichongcharden. The UFC came knocking on his door, and his trajectory seemed unstoppable.

However, an unexpected hurdle surfaced as the French MMA Federation refused to sanction his bout due to commission rules. These rules stipulated that fighters with less than 10 professional bouts must not have a greater than four-fight differential with their opponents. With Weeks boasting seven fights on his record, Doumbe found himself without a home in the UFC.

Undeterred by this setback, Doumbe pressed on, earning two more victories on the French domestic scene before sealing a deal with the PFL in May. His PFL debut was initially scheduled for June 23 in the United States, but a wrist injury delayed his entry into the league.

Now, fully recovered and brimming with determination, Cedric Doumbe is on the cusp of his PFL debut, where he will headline against fellow countryman Jordan Zebo. Doumbe exudes enthusiasm about this opportunity, stating, “Now I can make my debut with the PFL, it’s way better for me. Making that first fight in a PFL main event in Paris is just amazing. PFL is the future for me and it’s the future for every single MMA fighter. It’s the future of combat sports.”

Doumbe, whose journey from Cameroon to France was marked by challenges for his mother, views his MMA career as a way to make history. Inspired by the likes of Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira, who transitioned from kickboxing to MMA with remarkable success, Doumbe aims to follow in their footsteps.

He describes himself as possessing the “skills of Adesanya” and the “power of Pereira.” Unlike Pereira, who lost his Glory title before making the transition, Doumbe exited the kickboxing scene as a champion.

His ambition is crystal clear: “I want to make history. I want to be the first one to have belts in MMA and kickboxing.” Cedric Doumbe firmly believes that he can outshine his predecessors by simultaneously holding both titles, a feat that has yet to be accomplished.

As he looks ahead to his next opponent, Doumbe exudes confidence, stating, “My next opponent isn’t too strong. In my opinion, he doesn’t have the right experience to fight a guy like me.” His strategy includes a mix of wrestling and ground-and-pound, although he admits that once inside the cage, anything can happen.

Cedric Doumbe’s journey is a testament to resilience and unwavering determination. With his unique blend of skills and power, he aims to carve out a legacy that will resonate in the annals of combat sports history.

Cedric Doumbe’s journey from the brink of a UFC debut in France to his upcoming headline bout in the Professional Fighters League is nothing short of remarkable. His ability to rebound from disappointment and setbacks underscores his unwavering commitment to his craft.

The aspirations he holds, aiming to be a dual champion in both kickboxing and MMA, are audacious but not impossible. Inspired by the successes of Adesanya and Pereira, Doumbe is charting a path that could redefine the boundaries of combat sports.

His confidence in his upcoming opponent may raise eyebrows, but it’s the kind of self-belief that often sets fighters apart in the cage. The unpredictability of MMA ensures that surprises are always on the menu.

Cedric Doumbe’s debut in the PFL promises to be a spectacle worth watching, and it could mark the beginning of a new chapter in the career of a fighter who thrives on challenges and adversity.

Cedric Doumbe’s ambition to become the first fighter to simultaneously hold belts in both kickboxing and MMA is a lofty goal, but one that is well within reach for this determined athlete. His unique combination of skills and power, coupled with his unwavering self-confidence, sets him apart as a fighter to watch.

The parallels between his career trajectory and those of Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira are striking. Both Adesanya and Pereira made seamless transitions from kickboxing to MMA, and Doumbe is poised to follow in their footsteps. If he can emulate their success and secure championship belts in both disciplines, it would undoubtedly be a historic achievement.

As Doumbe prepares for his PFL debut and the opportunity to headline in Paris, the world of combat sports awaits to see if he can live up to his own expectations. One thing is certain: Cedric Doumbe is a fighter who refuses to back down in the face of adversity, and that resilience could take him to unprecedented heights in the world of MMA and kickboxing.
