San Diego, CA – Saturday, 7th October 2023 – Heavyweight sensation Slim Trabelsi is set to make his long-awaited debut in the Bellator MMA at the much-anticipated Bellator 300 event. Trabelsi, boasting an unblemished record of 5-0, has had a tumultuous journey to reach this pinnacle in his career.
Originally, Trabelsi had inked a deal with the UFC back in 2022, a dream come true for any aspiring MMA fighter. However, a contractual dispute between his management, Dominance MMA, and ARES FC owner Fernand Lopez, who also had a management deal with the fighter, shattered that dream. This dispute led to the cancellation of Trabelsi‘s contract with the UFC.
In 2023, Trabelsi‘s fortunes took a turn for the better as he signed with Bellator MMA, securing a spot on one of the promotion’s biggest cards in history, Bellator 300. The Tunisian fighter is not only eyeing victory but also the chance to become the first Tunisian fighter to claim a major MMA championship.
Trabelsi spoke passionately about the opportunity, saying, “It gives me big motivation to be the first Tunisian in the Bellator organization, and I hope to be the first Tunisian champion. Not just Tunisian, but the first Arabic fighter to be the champ. I am ready for this.”
For his debut, Trabelsi faces a formidable opponent in Davion Franklin, who has gained significant experience in Bellator. Despite recognizing the challenge, Trabelsi exuded confidence, stating, “I watched his fights, I know that he [had] many fights in Bellator. I know he’s a tough opponent, he’s explosive, strong punches. I prepared well, and I trained so much. I am ready for this fight.”
Trabelsi understands the gravity of the situation, acknowledging that this is the most important fight of his career. “Yes, this is the most important fight because this is a big organization, like Bellator, with a good-name opponent,” he remarked. “Many important people in the world will watch this fight, so I think this will be a big promotion for me and my name.”
However, the story surrounding Trabelsi‘s journey to the big leagues goes beyond his undefeated record. It’s a tale of resilience, determination, and perseverance. When Dominance MMA initially signed Trabelsi and sought to bring him to the UFC last year, it triggered a dispute with ARES FC’s Lopez, leading to legal wrangling and accusations flying in all directions.
Reflecting on this challenging journey, Trabelsi admitted, “This is hard to manipulate this. But in Fight Week, it’s different. I must not focus on these things. These things— I made a long way to come here. When I remember what happened in my life, I feel a rage inside me. The hard times were very bad.”
Trabelsi‘s journey has been marked by hardship, including living illegally in Europe, facing travel restrictions, and financial struggles. Despite these obstacles, he persisted, thanks to the support of his friends, cousins, and family.
“Now, I must forget it before the fight,” he added. “After the fight, I will remember this, but now I must focus on my opponent.”
