As one of the most significant times in his career approaches, Belal Muhammad is getting ready. For the UFC Welterweight Championship at UFC 304, the top-ranked welterweight contender will square off against Leon Edwards. Muhammad is blazingly certain that he will win the fight, and he is clearly focused on doing so.
It has not been an easy journey for Muhammad to get this championship shot. He gave himself over to Him. When Edwards defended his title against Colby Covington in December 2023, he was the number one contender in May 2023, but he had a long wait. Muhammad can’t wait to establish himself in the Octagon now.
“I love fighting,” Muhammad said of his MMA career. “You have no idea how messed up I am. I tell my coach, ‘Let’s do something. Let’s get a fight going.’ My goal is to win this belt and then head to Abu Dhabi for my first title defense at UFC 308. I want to stay active. We are warriors and we are paid to fight, not to sit and wait.”
Edwards Criticism and Relevance
Muhammad criticizes Edwards harshly and unrelentingly. Edwards’ advantage, he pointed out, was exclusively derived from his championship status. Muhammad said Edwards would never have advanced without the belt.
Muhammad said, “That belt is the reason behind everything about Leon.” Nobody would be aware of his identity without it. He remains motionless and says very nothing. In interviews, he frequently displays shyness, slurred speech, and verbal blunders. As a leader, he doesn’t seem to be very good. I will establish that belt is mine. It must be mine.
Muhammad thinks Edwards will do everything in his power to remain with the pros. Muhammad did not take notice when the champion was incompetent and comparatively worse than the best martial art.
“Leon has been invisible in epidemics and passivity,” Muhammad said. “He defended his belt twice in 2023, but it’s all part of the cycle. He uses this time to get as much attention as possible before the inevitable happens. As soon as I take the belt, he will disappear into the darkness. It’s just a matter of time.”
The Manchester Challenge: Opportunity for Muhammad
Despite Edwards having home advantage in Manchester, Muhammad sees this as an opportunity to make a bigger statement. The arena will no doubt be packed with supporters of Edwards, but Muhammad is accepting the challenge with open arms.
“My love,” Muhammad said confidently. “When I think about it, everything seems right. UFC 300 is a huge milestone, but it’s fitting that Edwards’ title reign ended with a fight in Manchester. A history book is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. I am ready for this challenge.”
Beyond the Tournament: Muhammad’s Grand Ambitions
For Muhammad, winning the UFC welterweight title is just the beginning. The 36-year-old sees the tournament as a stepping stone to a bigger legacy. He has his sights set on not only becoming a champion but the greatest welterweight in UFC history.
“My goal isn’t just to wear a bracelet,” Muhammad explained. “I want to be recognized as the best welterweight ever. Having beaten Kamaru Osman twice and beaten Leon, I would put him ahead of him and close to Georges St-Pierre. I’m focused on strengthening my place in history.”
Looking Ahead: Muhammad’s Plan to Defend his Title
If Muhammad emerges victorious, he is eager to face more top contenders. Names such as Shavkat Rakhmonov, Jack Della Maddalena and Ian Gary are on his radar. Muhammad is not looking to rest on his laurels but to defend his title against the best.
“Give me those heretics,” Muhammad said. “I want to meet them all. If I can beat them one by one, I’ll be firmly established as the greatest. I’m ready for whatever comes next.”
As Muhammad prepares for this crucial battle, his determination and readiness are evident. Not only is he looking to win but make a lasting impact in the welterweight division and beyond.
