Mixed martial arts record from Sherdog: Bashir Ahmad (Urdu: بشیر احمد), born on October 12, 1982, is a Pakistani-American professional mixed martial artist widely recognized as the “Pioneer of Mixed Martial Arts in Pakistan.” He has gained fame and respect for his contributions to the sport and is currently signed with ONE Championship.
Background:
Bashir Ahmad was born in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan, and later moved to Great Falls, Virginia, United States, with his parents at the age of three.[10][11] In 2002, he embarked on a career in the U.S. military by joining the Virginia National Guard.[12] In 2004, he was deployed to Iraq during the war, where he served as a U.S. Army medic in a team responsible for disarming explosives in Mosul.[12] Ahmad began his training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu around 2005, coinciding with the rise of MMA in North America.[13]
In 2007, he returned to Lahore, Pakistan, with the goal of promoting MMA in his home country.[14] After teaching Brazilian jiu-jitsu to local children for a period, he traveled to Thailand for a year to train in Muay Thai.[11][15] Upon his return to Pakistan in 2009, he established a small MMA training facility in his apartment, humorously nicknamed “The Slaughterhouse”.[16]
In 2012, Ahmad inaugurated the “Synergy MMA Academy” in Lahore, which has since evolved into one of the largest gyms in the country.
PAK MMA
Bashir Ahmad established the groundwork for Mixed Martial Arts Pakistan upon his arrival in the country in 2007. The mission of Mixed Martial Arts Pakistan was to advance all martial arts and combat sports nationwide, with a primary emphasis on MMA. Pursuing this objective, he traveled across the entire country, arranging seminars primarily focused on BJJ and MMA, and played a pivotal role in organizing the inaugural MMA fighting events.
ONE Championship career
At ONE FC: Kings and Champions, Ahmad sustained a cut in the first round, but medical professionals permitted the fight to continue, leading to Ahmad winning his promotional debut through a unanimous decision.
During ONE FC: Champions and Warriors, Ahmad faced off against Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Bruno Pucci and lost via submission due to a rear-naked choke.
His bout at ONE FC: Roar of the Tigers saw him defeating Tanaphong Khunhankaew by submitting him with a rear-naked choke.
In ONE Championship: Valor of Champions, Ahmad took on Amir Khan Ansari on just three days’ notice after Shannon Wiratchai, Khan’s original opponent, was injured. Ahmad lost this fight via TKO due to a doctor’s stoppage.
Ahmad was set to fight Martin Nguyen at ONE Championship: Odyssey of Champions, but the match was canceled when Jadamba Narantungalag was unable to compete in the main title match, leading to Martin Nguyen taking his place.
At ONE Championship: State of Warriors, Ahmad secured a victory by submitting his Egyptian opponent Mahmoud Mohamed in just 83 seconds.
Currently, Bashir Ahmad serves in an executive role overseeing competition and matchmaking at One Championship.
Shaheen Academy
Bashir Ahmad actively champions the use of martial arts philosophy to empower at-risk youth. In 2015, he established Shaheen Academy, a non-profit MMA gym and educational center in Lahore, Pakistan. Situated in the heart of the Charrar Pind slum, Shaheen Academy utilizes martial arts as a platform to foster confidence, discipline, and self-improvement among the youth of the area. The academy offers complimentary martial arts training and supplementary tutoring sessions after school. Bashir Ahmad organizes an annual fundraising event for Shaheen, and the academy relies entirely on donations for its operations.
